Final resting place of George Stephenson

Did you know Holy Trinity Church is the final resting place of George Stephenson – the Father of Railways? We’re presently celebrating 200 years since his revolutionary Locomotion No. 1 first carried passengers.

Thanks to support from The National Lottery Heritage Fund, we’re marking his legacy with new exhibitions, community events and learning opportunities. Visitors are invited to come and see his grave and explore the story of the man who changed the world. Click here for more information.
